What is a computer?

Computer is an electronic device which can be programmed to perform various numerical and non-numerical tasks. It accepts raw input data and processes with a computer program. (A computer program is a set of instruction). The word “Computer” was derived from latin word “Computare”; it means “to calculate”.
A computer contains various integrated software and hardware components. These components can be used to execute various applications and to provide solutions. A computer is also equipped with a memory which can be used to store data such as programs and processing results. Physical components of a computer such as circuits, wires, hard disks, disk drivers and etc are called hardware. On the other hand, data and programs are called software.
Charles Babbage is known as the father of the computer. In the year 1837 he invented a Analytical machine and it is believed to be the first computer of the world.
There are some basic parts in a modern computer.
It connects all other physical components of a computer.
It is the brain of a computer. Instructions from Programs
are executed by the processor.
It transfers data between the central processing unit and
the storage.
It can be used to store data permanently. Ex-hard Drive
Input devices are used to input data into the computer or to
communicate with it.
Output devices are used to output the processed data or to
see the output result. EX-Monitor, Printer
Modern computers are divided into different types based on different
sizes which are used in different criteria. Basically there are five types.
1. Micro Computers
Micro computers are single user computers
with less storage capacity and less speed.
2. Mini computers
Mini computers are mid-range computers.
3. Mainframe computers
Mainframe computers and multi-user
computers.
4. Super computers
Super computers and the fastest. These
computers are very expensive too.
5. Workstations
Workstations are also single-user computers but with more powerful microprocessors and other components.
