The motherboard is the biggest circuit board of a computer and it is usually located inside the computer casing. It is also the main circuit board and the foundation of a computer. The motherboard is designed to interconnect hardware components inside a computer and to allocate power between them.

Different computers have different motherboards depending on their types and sizes. Motherboards do not work with every processor and all types of memory modules. They are designed to support specific processor types and memory modules.

Motherboard are equipped with various components. Expansion slots, Heat sink, Capacitors, CPU socket, Memory slots, ATA connectors and Jumpers are some of them.

Different connectors, Different ports and different slots of a computer motherboard are differently color coded. It helps its users to easily identify those connectors, slots or ports.

The first computer motherboard was discovered by the IBM back at 1981. It was also known as the “PLANAR”.

A Motherboard has daughterboards. Daughterboards are the smaller circuit boards connected to a motherboard.
